At FastDemocracy, we make government transparency happen. Leveraging political data, we help great organizations streamline their advocacy work.

We empower nonprofits, associations, businesses and lobbyists to stay informed on legislation and make their voices heard. Our platform provides real-time, non-partisan legislative bill tracking for Congress and all 50 states, helping stakeholders access their government and take timely actions. We work with hundreds of customers across the country, helping them advocate on their legislative priorities.

Position and Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Full-Stack Software Engineering Lead to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the CTO, you will shape FastDemocracy’s future by independently developing tools on the front and back end. This includes gathering of legislative data using scrapers, expanding our backend services, incorporating AI tools and developing our user interface to incorporate new capabilities. In addition to development, you will be directly in touch with our customers, training them on the software and addressing their needs. A quick learner and passionate advocate for civic technology, you'll thrive in our fast-paced startup environment. This position is remote (must be US-based and be authorized to work in the United States).

Qualifications

• Extensive experience as a lead developer in a startup environment
• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or similar STEM subjects (negotiable with extensive experience and skill)
• Self-starter who works independently and oversees software projects from start to finish
• Collaborative team player who prioritizes exceptional CX

· Proficient in Python, PHP, SQL and JavaScript/JQuery

· Experience in building applications both on the client and server side

· Experience with AWS technologies like ECS, RDS, Lambda, Elastic Beanstalk

· Excellent emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills

· Thrives in a fast-paced and ever-changing startup environment, ready to innovate, show initiative and exceed expectations

· Resourceful and demonstrates creative problem solving skills

• Knowledge and interest in politics and government advocacy is a plus (but not a requirement)
• Experience with AI technologies a plus
